An Evening With Château Héritage: Lebanese Wine, Middle Eastern Feasting, Stories Worth Sharing.

Everyone has a Bordeaux story. Far fewer people have a Bekaa Valley one.

On Tuesday 8 September, Fat Prince hands the pass to Lebanon. Four courses, four wines from Château Héritage, to be shared, argued across and refilled. Paul from Wine Heritage leads the room through the bottles, so you get the vineyard behind every pour rather than a label you nod politely at.

Who is Château Héritage

Start in 1888. That is the year the Touma family set up one of Lebanon's first wineries and distilleries in Kab Elias, a small town in the Bekaa Valley. For a century their name meant arak. Wine came later, with the first modern vintages released in 1997, and in 2025 the estate landed at No. 33 on The World's 50 Best Vineyards.

The setting explains the wines. The vineyards sit at roughly 1,000 metres, in a valley where Roman temples to Bacchus once stood, where hot days give way to cold mountain nights. That swing keeps the fruit ripe and the acidity intact. Five generations in, with Dr. Dargham Touma making the wine.

Lebanon has been making wine for around five thousand years. It is not a novelty region. It is one of the oldest, and one of the most overlooked on a Singapore wine list.

Why these wines, with this food

Fat Prince cooks the food this region drinks with every day. That is the whole argument.

Levantine reds carry spice, smoke and char without flinching. They have the structure to sit under braised beef cheek and the lift to cut through tahini, pomegranate and za'atar. Pair a fussy European red with a charcoal grill and someone loses. Pair a Bekaa red with it and nothing has to compromise.

Dessert is where it gets interesting. Vinoix, the sweet wine closing the night, is fortified with macerated walnuts, which sounds odd until it meets rose, pistachio and dark chocolate.
